Description/Abstract:The Association of Faculties of Pharmacy of Canada (AFPC), in collaboration with Canada Health Infoway, has developed a series of peer-reviewed, e-prescribing modules for community-based prescribers (physicians, nurse practitioners, dentists) and pharmacy professionals (pharmacists, pharmacy technicians). There is a clear training need to support adoption of e-prescribing – misunderstanding exists, there is a lack of clarity of fundamental principles, and pre-existing prescribing and dispensing practices and routines must evolve. In addition, communication and collaboration between prescribers and pharmacists will need to be strengthened as PrescribeIT®, Infoway’s national e-prescribing service, is implemented in clinics and pharmacies across the country. This first course, Safe and Effective e-Prescribing, focuses on e-prescribing features, benefits, challenges, safety and effectiveness. Learning is enhanced through practical cases and interactive activities. A follow-up course on workplace integration will be launched in spring 2021. The courses are FREE on AFPC’s e learning platform – https://eLearnHCP.ca/eRx.
